Your first scale the pentatonic scale

This lesson is where the fun really begins.  Here we start to talk about playing lead guitar and we start by learning the standard pentatonic scale.  I will teach you the scale and start to teach you how to play the scale to a blues rhythm.  There is also a brief tutorial on reading tablature.

On the left is the root position of the A minor pentatonic scale.

Audio Example of Scale

This is an example of what you can do with this scale.  I kept the licks relatively slow so you could hear the sound of the scale and get some ideas from it.  If you would like to download it just click on the lick above and save the zip file to your hard drive.

Please listen to this clip by clicking on the "Audio clip 1" link.  If you would like to download it just click on the lick above and save the zip file to your hard drive.  You can then unzip the file and play the example on you computer and practice to them.

Here is what the scale sounds like both fast and slow.  If you notice, I put picking symbols on the tab that show all down strokes, which again is not the economic way to play the scale but it is the best way to learn the scale.  Play the scale very slow at first like "Audio clip 1" and once you have learned it go on to "Pentatonic Exercised".
