Technique Building with the right hand

This lesson is for the Guitarist that is experienced and is looking to improve his or her picking technique.  All of the licks and exercises are presented here as technique builders, but can also be used as fast licks in your soloing.  I learned these licks from players lick Paul Gilbert, Joey Taffola, Tony MacAlpine, and some are my own.  All of these licks and runs are played the same i.e. you will start with a down stroke and alternate pick all the way through the lick or run.  So lets get started!

Here is a lick that is played on two strings and it will help to exaggerate the upstroke action between the B and the E strings. Remember the start with at down stroke and alternate pick all the way through.  This exercises will help you develop a smooth transition between strings when alternate picking.

This lick is very similar to the fist except it exaggerates the string transition between the B and the E strings.  Again start with a down stroke and alternate pick all the way through.

This exercise is again similar to the above two with a twist.

This exercise is again similar to the above with a twist.

This exercise is the opposite of the first one, here you will start on the high E string with your 4th finger with a down stroke on the pick.  This exercise again helps with the transition between the strings while alternate picking.
